More Than Sports: How Sawmill Sports Hub Gives Back to Our Community
Sawmill community giving is built on a simple belief: when our neighbors, schools, families and local organizations need support, we show up. At Sawmill Sports Hub, we believe community is built by showing up for one another, both on and off the field.
Sports bring people together, but the impact of a strong community should extend beyond the field, court or scoreboard. That is why Sawmill supports meaningful causes, local families, schools and organizations throughout Willowbrook, DuPage County and Chicagoland.
Our employee-led giving model makes every initiative personal. Team members have the opportunity to nominate causes that are meaningful to them, their families or the people they care about. Then, Sawmill brings staff, athletes, families, partners and supporters together through fundraising, donation drives, awareness campaigns and local events.
Sawmill Community Giving Starts With Our Team
When a cause matters to someone on our team, it becomes an opportunity for the entire Sawmill community to make a difference. Each initiative turns a personal connection into collective action—whether that means raising funds, collecting essential items, sharing resources or showing up at a local event.
The causes may be different, but the purpose remains the same: to use our platform to support people and organizations making a real difference in the communities we serve.
Supporting Veterans Through Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans
Sawmill Sports Hub has raised money for the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans, a nonprofit organization that helps homeless and at-risk veterans and their families work toward stability and self-sufficiency.
The organization provides housing, employment support, community outreach and essential wraparound services for veterans and their families. Based in nearby Wheaton, the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans serves people in the same region Sawmill calls home.
Supporting this mission is an opportunity to recognize the people who served our country and help ensure that veterans and their families have access to housing, resources, dignity and a path forward. We are proud that the Sawmill community has helped raise funds for an organization working to make a direct difference in the lives of local veterans.
Collecting Clothing for Children Affected by HIV/AIDS
Through the Junior Council, Sawmill Sports Hub has collected countless bags of clothing for children affected by HIV/AIDS who receive care through Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.
A clothing drive may seem simple, but essential items can make a meaningful difference for children and families already navigating difficult circumstances. Every bag donated represented a family, athlete, staff member or supporter who chose to help make sure young people in need had practical support and care.
Junior Council supports the pediatric and adolescent HIV/AIDS program at Lurie Children’s, helping connect young people with medical care, mental-health services, social support and educational assistance. Its mission is rooted in the belief that every child affected by HIV/AIDS deserves access to high-quality care, regardless of their ability to pay.
Advocating for Student-Athlete Mental Health
Sawmill has also raised donations and awareness for Morgan’s Message, a nonprofit dedicated to eliminating stigma around mental health in the student-athlete community.
Student-athletes face unique pressures. They balance school, practices, competition, physical demands, expectations and the desire to perform for coaches, teammates and families. Too often, athletes feel pressure to appear strong even when they are struggling.
Morgan’s Message works to normalize conversations about mental health, support athletes who feel alone and promote equal treatment of physical and mental health in athletics. Supporting this mission reflects a belief we hold deeply at Sawmill: athletes are more than their performance. They are teammates, students, friends, sons, daughters, siblings and people who deserve care both on and off the field.
Showing Up for Schools & Local Families
Giving back does not only happen through formal fundraisers. It also happens through the local events, traditions and school gatherings that bring neighbors together.
Sawmill Sports Hub proudly participates in district school events, Trunk or Treat celebrations, school auctions, craft fairs, community fairs, school drives and any opportunity to support the families, schools and organizations in our area.
These events create opportunities to meet local families, celebrate schools, support educators, contribute to donation drives and be present for the moments that make a neighborhood feel connected. Whether we are donating an auction item, participating in a family event, helping a school drive or supporting a community fair, we see every event as a chance to give something back.
Why Local Giving Matters
Community support is not always about the size of a donation or the scale of an event. It is about consistency. It is about showing people that they are seen, that their causes matter and that they have neighbors willing to stand beside them.
Every fundraiser, clothing drive, school event and awareness campaign is a reminder that a community is strongest when its people show up for each other. The causes may be different, but the purpose is the same: to create more support, more connection and more hope for the people around us.
At Sawmill Sports Hub, we are proud to play for something bigger than the game.
